Badger State Games – Volunteers Needed

This coming weekend, the Wausau Nordic Ski Club is co-hosting the Badger State Games Nordic Ski events at Nine Mile.   Race day is this Saturday, January 25.   We have a need for some volunteers yet at some key positions and am reaching out to see if you would be interested in helping on Friday or Saturday.   There are a variety of spots we still need filled, both inside and outside.    Anyone volunteering will get a long-sleeve Badger State Games t-shirt and a lunch, if needed.   This is one of our higher profile events for the Club and one that helps support our club operations for all the good things we do.   Here are some of the times and jobs we need filled:

Friday:

Start/Finish Line Setup:  On Friday morning, we will be setting up the start and finish area near the chalet.   The plan will be to meet at IHOP at 7:00 AM (not required) and then plan on being at Nine Mile at 8:00 AM.   Most of this work will be outside.   We’d expect to be wrapped up around Noon or so.  We’re planning a cookout lunch in the chalet for all the helpers.

Race Packet Assembly and Registration Area Set-up:  In the afternoon, we will do final assembly of the race packets and set-up the race check-in/late registration area in the chalet.   Inside job!    We’d expect about 3 hours work.    Figure we’d start at 1:00, but if you can come later, that would be fine as well.

Saturday:
On Saturday, we have a variety of spots that remain to be filled including course marshals, assistance in the start and finish area, volunteer check-in, awards (assist in handing out),   For these positions, if you know when you can help, I can slot you somewhere that works into your schedule.   Note that racing begins at 9:00 and probably ends around 2:30.  Most positions are needed in the morning and fewer people are needed in the afternoon.

Tear-Down:  When the events are all over in the mid-afternoon, we will need a crew of several people to assist with tear down.   This should go relatively quickly if we have a 5-6 people for the job.   Basically, it’s pulling down the fencing, banners, etc, and putting them away.
