Nine Mile Update – 12/21/2022 @ 6:00 PM
It’s been a couple of days since we last updated what is going on at Nine Mile. The County did open the chalet on Wednesday and at present, there are a number of trails that can be skied on groomed surfaces.. For those that know Nine Mile and the trails, you can ski on the lighted loops, both north side and south side. In addition, M is groomed out to T and you can return on Y. There are a number of other trails that close to being ready but need some big trees removed by the County yet and those trails also need the groomer to run over those.
With all that said, the weather forecast is not good the next few days for man nor beast. With the winds predicted on Friday, there is a good possibility that we will see more tree limbs come down on the trail. The County has indicated that there is a good possiblity they may close the chalet and trails if conditions get too risky to have people on the trails. We’ll try to update things as we know they, but you can also check the County Parks and Forestry Department Facebook page as they have been putting updates out there. FYI, they already closed the tubing hill at Sylvan on Friday.
A huge thank you needs to go out to all our volunteers this week. There are probably over 200 man (and woman) hours into cleaning up the trail by just our club member volunteers. If not for their efforts, it’s safe to say that Nine Mile would not be open yet.
We’ll continue to provide updates as we have information to report. But do watch both our Facebook page and the County page for developments as that is most likely where information will be posted first.
