Adult Lessons

Details

Free lessons are offered yearly for those looking to try out cross-country skiing. The Wausau Nordic Ski Club in cooperation with Marathon County offers this wonderful opportunity to get ski equipment, trail pass, and lessons at no cost to the adult student.

Groups are created based on ability and kept small to allow for a quality learning experience. Lighted trails at Nine Mile make for an incredible evening ski.

Classes are offered based on your skill level and desired technique.

Skiers will need to register online to secure their spot. Registration opens two weeks prior to each class. Registration for the first week’s lesson will be opened once Nine Mile Trails officially open, typically around December 15. The registration link will be posted on this page once it is open.

CLASSIC VS SKATE – WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE

When you look at the class list, you will see a distinction between classic and skating.   These are two different techniques used to get yourself moving forward with a kick and glide rhythm.   Most adults will start with a classic stride and maybe move on to skating later.   However, it is not totally necessary.  But, having a good classic technique will help you transition to skating when your ready.    If someone has some good experience on ice skates or roller blades, you may find the skate technique not that difficult to master.   Another name for classic skiing is diagonal stride.   To get a good explanation and demonstration of the two techniques, check out the video linked here.
