Youth Development

Unsure where your child or teen should begin? The chart below shows expectations by age and development. See below for more details by group.

Where do you fit?

Snow Striders

Grades K4-4
Phases 1 & 2
Skis and boots provided at practice only
5 weeks (Sunday only)

Adventure Team

Grades 3-8
Phases 1 & 2
Rental skis and poles provided
Must have 1 pair Combi ski boots
Practice Sunday + 1 weeknight (Tuesday).
racing is optional

Middle School Racing

Grades 4-8
Phases 3-6
Skis (both race & “b” skis) and poles provided by Wausau Nordic Ski Club.
Must have 1 pair Combi ski boots
Practice 3 nights/week plus frequent weekends
10-15 races including travel out of town

High School Racing

Grades 9-12
Phases 4-6
Equipment rental and support available
Racers should work towards owning own gear for lifetime pursuit of the sport
Practice 3-4 nights/week plus races most weekends. Travel required.
