FAQ

  • When can I bring in my equipment for consignment?
Please bring your equipment to the venue per the times listed above. They may vary by year!
  • What does “consignment” mean?
Consignment means that you are asking another to hold onto your property for sale. With the Wausau Ski Swap you are asking the Wausau Ski Swap to sell your equipment for you.
  • Is there a contract for sellers?
Please read and familiarize yourself with the terms of the Wausau Ski Swap Agreement before you come in to sell your equipment. Only sellers have to sign the contract. You must provide your name, mailing address, and telephone number. Sellers must be at least 18 years of age.
  • What can I do to get the best price?
Clean your gear! Make sure nothing is broken or out of date (unusable). Heavily worn or broken equipment will not sell. Sell it the way you would like to buy it!
  • What equipment is NOT allowed at the Swap?
Nordic: Three pin bindings, cable bindings except on “bush / wilderness” skis, poles without baskets, skis that have been “re-glued”, torn or well used clothing. Alpine: Straight skis, rear entry boots (older models), poles that have no baskets or are bent, anything with rust (except edges), torn / well used clothing, helmets w/o labels, Some downhill equipment is no longer serviced or recommended for continued use by its manufacturer or by local sellers, we will not allow the sale of equipment we know that presents a danger to another.
  • What equipment sells the best?
Clean, good condition skis, boots, poles, bindings, boards Ski and boot bags Gently used helmets Like new or excellent condition clothing, winter coats, bibs, ski pants Roof top carriers (double check all parts are attached) Snow shoes (new and classic) ski wax benches and waxing gear Ski & speed suits The following items do not sell well, and may not be permitted if deemed a safety issue: Ski gloves, used scarves or face masks, dirty equipment, broken equipment, severely scratched equipment, and clothing in poor condition with stains or tears.
  • Do you accept commercial vendors?
Yes. Please contact us to learn more and request a commercial vendor agreement. We only accept commercial vendors relevant to skiing and ski equipment.
  • What if I have a large amount of equipment?
Private sellers with 10+ items can expedite check-in by sending a Large Quantity Check In Form to us ahead of the swap. This is no longer available for 2023, please check back next year.
  • Is there a charge for consigning?
The Wausau Ski Swap retains twenty-five percent (25%) of the sales price as commission.
  • Can I exchange equipment for equipment at the sale?
Sorry, but no. Sales are cash/check/credit card only.
  • What happens when my gear sells?
At the end of the Swap day you will get a print out of what has been sold and not. Wausau Ski Swap will then give you a check for your gear sold, less 25% commission. Checks and equipment will be available only during pickup hours on swap day. Unclaimed checks will be mailed. Unclaimed equipment will be considered abandoned.
  • When does the swap open for shopping?
The doors will open to the public at noon for the public sale. While there may still be people inside checking in their gear, the line for the sale starts outside. We will let in folks in in an orderly manner to prevent injury and damage to property. Please take your time to enjoy the community environment and get to know some of our youth skiers at the booths.
  • Does Wausau Ski Swap accept credit cards?
Yes we will! The Wausau Ski Swap will accept cash and checks as well as Visa, MasterCard and Discover. There will be separate credit card transaction fees.
  • Can I try out the equipment before I buy it?
You must purchase your equipment before leaving the building. If you are shopping for boots, wear ‘winter socks’ to get the proper fit. There will be boot size charts up on the racks to help. Wausau Ski Swap and the Wausau Nordic Ski Club sells all items on consignment. All items are sold as-is and as final sale. There are no refunds, returns, or warranty.
