Thanks to your generous support of the 2024 WNSC Capital Campaign, the joy of cross-country skiing reached even further this season!
In February, Cub Scouts from Athens Pack 350 enjoyed their very first experience on skis, using WNSC youth ski and boot equipment made available through your donations. The Scouts skied across Spirit Lake during a winter Pack activity, building new skills, confidence, and memories. Of the eight Scouts participating, only two had skied before — and by the end of the day, new passions had taken root.
One Scout, Marcus, surprised everyone with his excitement — chattering happily the moment he hit the snow! Another, Lilly, stepped bravely outside her comfort zone to try skiing for the very first time.
This event highlights the power of partnership and how WNSC’s mission — to support cross-country skiing in Marathon County and skiers of all ages and ability levels — extends beyond the trails of 9-Mile.
A special thank you to Andrea Larson for facilitating this opportunity with Carter Abney and Pack 350, and for coordinating the delivery and return of the youth ski equipment.
Please see the heartfelt thank-you letter here from Pack 350! Together, we’re building a stronger, more welcoming ski community for everyone.
